Springish
Journal Entry: Thu Apr 10, 2008, 1:30 PM
Since it's spring, and classes are almost out, I feel I should go through and submit work I forgot about, and resubmit ones I want to refine. So there might be some new ones up, or some revised versions. If there are any you would like to see redone, then I am open to suggestions. I have been busy with finals, so I might get those up when they are done. I also am also trying to finish work, and make new ones, so maybe even more of that. Hopefully. I also might end up submitting some work from my photography class.
Thanks for everybody's support.

I really like "Cryptid Hominid stamp series"!
I looked through your gallery. Looks pretty good, maybe a few comments:
1. You may want to work more with images that you've LiveTraced in Illustrator. Some of them just look LiveTraced, and a few tweaks could remove that generic look.
2. Generally, the components of your compositions seem to have all the same visual size, which applies to type and image. You may want to look at varying the size of type a little bit more, and think of type more like a foreground/middle ground/background kind of way.
The individual elements are fine, but they all kind of cancel each other out because they're all fighting for the same visual space. Some more hierarchy in the type and image would help several of these really stand out.
3. As for color work, I'm just working with a Wacom tablet and PhotoShop, and working more with layers and color/light FX to get a broader palette. I'm also bringing more organic texture in to counter-balance the more cel-shaded techniques I use. It's always a work in process.
Overall, your stuff looks pretty good. I think the design work will improve with having actual client requirements to it, as that will give it more focus and make you include more of the details most design work needs.
Keep up the good work. Hope my comments help.
